Preservation is one of the highest forms of good citizenship.

We invite you to participate in the restoration of the John Buckelew House at the Pulda Farm, circa 1765

Over the last several years, the North Brunswick Historical Society has led the effort to preserve and restore what is likely the oldest residential home remaining in North Brunswick. Our work thus far has been funded with proceeds from the 235th Anniversary Gala in 2014.

North Brunswick is the only area municipality without a public historic home or museum. The home and its adjacent barns and lands are envisioned as an outstanding setting for a variety of public events, including history-related functions, tours, educational programs, school activities, seasonal events, fall festivals, meetings, and even weddings and other private social events.

We’ve been busy.

We selected HMR Architects of Princeton to partner with us for restoration management, and secured a grant with the Middlesex County Cultural and Historic Commission to document the history of the house. We brought potable water inside the house for the first time, and restored electric service to the house which has been dark for 10 years.

Most recently, through a grant from the NJ Historic Trust 1772 Foundation, we were able to begin to paint the house but a lack of funds limited our work to the two-story Federal portion of the home. This exterior painting project has achieved not only an impressive new aesthetic, but has substantially improved the exterior maintenance and condition of this historical treasure.

We have a long list of restoration projects that require public support!
